略歴

Biography

3歳よりヴァイオリンを始め、4歳より桐朋学園「子供のための音楽教室」で外山滋、篠崎弘嗣氏等に師事する。
1966年、NHK「ヴァイオリンのおけいこ」に出演
1975年、東京芸術大学付属音楽高校に入学
1978年、東京芸術大学音楽学部作曲科に入学。作曲を南弘明、北村昭両氏に師事する。 在学中、弦楽合奏団「PIVOT」を主宰・指揮し演奏会を行う。 ヤマハ音楽振興会「ポピュラーソングコンテスト」の編曲を手懸けたり、アマチュアバンドの指導を行う。
1979年よりジャズピアニストの市川秀男氏のアシスタントとして数々のレコーディングに参加し、その後も作・編曲、ヴァイオリニスト、キーボードプレイヤー、プロデューサーとして多方面で活動する。今では伝説となった異色バンド「KILLING TIME」「SUNSET KIDS」に在籍していた。
1984年からは「南こうせつ」「小林明子」等のツアーに参加。
1987年頃からは「オン・アソシエイツ音楽出版」で数々のCM音楽の作・編曲を手懸ける。昨年活動10周年を迎えた「斎藤ネコカルテット」のリーダーとして、意欲的にライブ活動をしている。
2000年、「斎藤ネコレーベル」を発足。相曽晴日「月の子供」等良質の音楽を追求している。
2002年、早稲田大学の学生を中心とした弦楽合奏団「のらねこ合奏団」を結成。ポップスのできるストリングスの養成に力を入れたものの、学生には就職という厳しい人生が待っていたためメンバーは次第に“飼い猫”状態になり、F.O.中。
2004年、MIXER'S LAB内沼映二氏と、CHECKING DVD BY MUSICを制作、 DVDオーディオの可能性を追及。
2005年、新国立劇場1月公演、カフカ作松本修演出「城」の音楽を担当、原作を上回る不条理を劇場のシステムに見い出す。
2009年、3月30日スタートNHK教育テレビ「おかあさんといっしょ」～モノランモノラン～新ぬいぐるみ人形劇の音楽を担当。 Began playing the violin at the age of 3, and from the age of 4, studied at the Toho Gakuen School of Music's "Music School for Children" under Shigeru Toyama, Hirotsugu Shinozaki, and others.
In 1966, appeared on NHK's "Violin Lessons."
In 1975, entered the Music High School attached to the Tokyo University of the Arts.
In 1978, entered the Composition Department of the Tokyo University of the Arts. Studied composition under Hiroaki Minami and Akira Kitamura. While a student, he organized and conducted the string ensemble "PIVOT" and held concerts. He also arranged for the Yamaha Music Foundation's "Popular Song Contest" and coached amateur bands.
From 1979, he participated in numerous recordings as an assistant to jazz pianist Hideo Ichikawa, and has since been active in a wide range of fields as a composer, arranger, violinist, keyboard player, and producer. He was a member of the now legendary and unique bands "KILLING TIME" and "SUNSET KIDS."
From 1984, he participated in tours with artists such as Kosetsu Minami and Akiko Kobayashi.
From around 1987, he worked on the composition and arrangement of numerous commercial songs for "On Associates Music Publishing." As the leader of the "Saito Neko Quartet," which celebrated its 10th anniversary last year, he is actively performing live.
In 2000, he launched the "Saito Neko Label." He is pursuing high-quality music such as Haruhi Aiso's "Tsuki no Kodomo."
In 2002, he formed the string ensemble "Noraneko Ensemble" centered on students from Waseda University. Although he focused on training strings players who could play pop music, the members gradually became "tame cats" as they faced the harsh reality of job hunting, and the group is currently on hiatus.
In 2004, he produced "CHECKING DVD BY MUSIC" with Eiji Uchinuma of MIXER'S LAB, pursuing the possibilities of DVD audio.
In 2005, he was in charge of the music for the New National Theatre's January performance of Kafka's "The Castle," directed by Osamu Matsumoto, and found an absurdity that surpassed the original in the theater's system.
In 2009, he was in charge of the music for the new puppet show "Monoran Monoran" on NHK Educational TV's "Okaasan to Issho," which started on March 30.
